Must Reads For The Week 11/8/14
THESE ARTICLES MAKE ME OPTIMISTIC THAT WE ARE WINNING THE FIGHT AGAINST GOVERNMENT CENTRAL PLANNING
Uber Is Transforming The Way People Travel, Live, and Socialize, And Big Taxi Is Doomed, by Mark J. Perry, at carpediemblog. Uber is providing people with an alternative to owning a car. Individuals in Los Angeles are using Uber as their designated driver. Uber is an example of the dynamism of the market. Technology used by entrepreneurs who find better ways to do things. The consumer wins.
Army Eyes 3-D Printed Food For Soldiers, by Aarti Shahani, at npr.org. I saw this at Carpe Diem Blog. I’ve always wondered if you could 3-D print food, but I concluded there was no way it could be done. Wrong! It’s difficult for me to wrap your head around this.
You’ll Be Able To 3-D Print Prescription Drugs On Demand At Home Within A Decade, at economicpolicyjournal.com. Well if you can 3-D print food, you can certainly 3-D print prescription drugs. The Republicans should use this as an example of what would happen if we repeal Obamacare and allow a free market in healthcare to develop.
Thoughtful.org Is Now A Crowdfunding Platform For Medical Costs And Emergencies, by Anthony Ha, at techcrunch.com. Once again an example of how technology is being used in ways that are only limited by our imagination. In this case it is being used for charitable purposes.
US Oil Production Boom Explained In One Chart, at economicpolicyjournal.com. This chart shows how the fracking revolution has allowed US oil production to exceed Saudi Arabia’s production by 2.4 million barrels a day. Carbon based fuel is the winner consumers picked in the free market, and green energy is the loser Government central planners tried to pick as the winner.
Saudi Arabia Cuts Oil Price To US, at economicipolicyjournal.com. US shale oil production has forced Saudi Arabia to drop its price for a barrel of oil. Do you remember how the left scoffed at Sarah Palin when she said, “drill baby drill”.
Chicago Activists Unchained, at youtube.com. These Chicago activists are figuring out that central planning, even under the guise of helping blacks, doesn’t work. As F. A. Hayek said, “The coordination of mens activities through central planning or through voluntary cooperation are roads going in very different directions, the first to serfdom and poverty the second to freedom and plenty.”
THESE ARTICLES HELP ME UNDERSTAND IT’S GOING TO BE A LONG BATTLE
ACLU Attorney Says Video Of Officers Shooting Homeless Man Resembles Firing Squad, by Barry Donegan, at benswann.com. Do officers carry billy clubs anymore? If all eight officers went at this guy and beat him with their billy clubs, at least he would be alive today. The officers in this video fired 46 rounds at this man and hit him only 14 times. Where did the other 32 rounds end up? I think I trust people who conceal carry to use a gun more wisely than I do some of the cops.
Students Reprimanded For Handing Out U.S. Constitutions Outside Of Free Speech Zone, by Rachel Blevins, at benswann.com. Look how big the designated free speech zone is. If you are allowed to speak freely only in a designated area. How can campus officials say they are for free speech?
Obama Responds To Jordan’s Remarks About Obama’s Golf Game, at nydailynews.com. I had to put this in for one reason. The President of the United States doesn’t respond to comments about his golf game. And if he does, he doesn’t respond like this. We can’t continue to put people into office who act like petulant little kids.
