Must Reads For The Week 1/13/18

House Passes Legislation Renewing Controversial NSA Surveillance Program, at zerohedge.com. Why do we allow the government to use warrantless eavesdropping on US citizens? The US Congress has essentially repealed our fourth amendment rights against illegal searches and seizures.

How The Government Hides Secret Surveillance Programs, by Aaron Sprecher, at wired.com. Local governments are breaking the law when they use Stingray surveillance devices. They are violating the fourth and fifth amendments of the Constitution.

No, We Don’t Need A Federal “Solution” To Infrastructure Problems, by Ryan McMaken, at mises.org. Cities and states not only have enough wealth to build infrastructure, they have the knowledge of what should be built. The Federal government has no business redistributing tax dollars from one state to fund another state’s infrastructure projects. Federal infrastructure spending leads to waste. Remember the bridge to nowhere in Alaska. What about Obama saying, ‘I guess all those shovel ready jobs weren’t so shovel ready”.

Army Finds $830 Million In “Missing” Helicopters As First Ever Audit Begins, at zerohedge.com. The fact that the audit of the Department of Defense is taking place is a good thing. A huge amount of waste will be found. This should not surprise anyone. Because where ever there is a pile of tax payer money to be given out there will be no shortage of corruption that will take place in the procurement of these funds. Making government more efficient is a good start. But if you are truly interested in cutting the size of government, you have to cut the amount of tax payer dollars that the government takes from the economy. Very few politicians are interested in cutting the size and scope of government. We the people have to get this done. By the way; How much waste do yo think there is in all the other government agencies?

Dem-Ordered Study To Expose Illegal Online Gun Sales Backfires, by Brooke Singman, at foxnews.com. The Government Accountability Office was tasked to try to purchase guns from online private dealers to show how easy it was to purchase guns illegally. After two and a half years, Their 72 attempts to purchase a gun illegally were unsuccessful. Have you heard about this from the main stream media aka fake news? Bias anyone!

Google’s Fact-Check Targets Conservative Sites, at zerohedge.com. No one is unbiased. Especially individuals who are in positions as keepers of the truth. These people are not supposed to be questioned about their bias. They are supposed to be trusted because in their minds they have the ability to leave their bias on the sidelines.

Project Veritas Exposes Twitter “Shadow Banning”, Blocking Opposing Views, at zerohedge.com. In the words of Ronald Reagan, “Well, there you go again”. Twitter shows its political bias by what it blocks.

On Duty Police Deaths Were Near A 50 Year Low In 2017, at mises.org. I am all about the truth. You have probably been lead to believe that police deaths are at all time highs. But that is not the truth. Perception isn’t reality.

Seattle Soda Tax Prompts Price Increases, Small Business Pain, at reason.com. Nanny state soda tax proponents claim the tax will not hurt business. They say it will change consumer’s preferences. This is an example of Progressives trying to force what they think is good on to other people who disagree. In this case progressives are using increased prices through taxation to curb the use of a product they don’t want people to have. They understand the law of supply and demand: Less is demanded at a higher price than a lower price. This will create a black market for soda, just like the NYC cigarette tax has created a black market for cigarettes.

Pink Pussyhats Of The Anti-Trump Women’s March Are Falling Out Of Favor. The Reason Is Quite Ironic, at the blaze.com. This could be a story from The Onion. Did you know there were other subdivisions inside the broad category labeled “women”? I get a smile on my face when I see the proponents of ‘identity politics’ have it blow up in their faces. We have allowed politicians to gain power over us by dividing us into different groups and pitting us against each other. The fact is there are only two groups. Group 1) Individuals inside government who wield state sanctioned power. Group 2) Individuals outside of government who have state sanctioned power used against them. The battle has always been the same. The State vs. The Individual. When individuals accept their placement into one of these identity groups, they become ignorant about the real battle taking place.
