Must Reads For The Week 9/29/18
10 Red Flags About Sexual Assault claims, From An Employment Lawyer, by Adam Mill, at thefederalist.com. For those following the Kavanaugh circus. Weigh what you’ve seen against the 10 points in this article. What do you think?
Feminists Rage Over Latest Injustice: Sexist iPhones, at zerohedge.com. Feminist think that apple is sexist because it created an iphone that is too big for a woman’s hand. It can also cause “repetitive strain injury”. And feminists have told us there is no difference between men and women? Maybe they need to rethink their premise?
Historic GOP Win In State Senate Race Dampens Democratic Hopes For A ‘Blue wave’ In Texas, at dallasnews.com. Dems in Texas lose a State Senate seat they had held for 139 years. Hmmm.
Political Turmoil Truths: Media Bias & Trump’s Presidency, by Victor Davis Hanson, at nationalreview.com. Great analysis of Trump and the resistance. Excerpt from the article: “First, those in power had never imagined that Donald Trump either could or should win the 2016 election.”
“That reality emboldened federal employees to take risks and step over the line in efforts to ensure that Trump would be humiliated at the polls. Officials assumed that incoming President Hillary Clinton would either overlook or reward their zealotry.”
“……” both the Democratic and Republican establishments, as well as the proverbial “deep state” bureaucracy, agreed that President Trump was so crude and uncouth that he must not continue in office.”
“….if Trump could not be removed by impeachment, a lawsuit citing the emoluments clause of the Constitution, application of the 25th Amendment, indictment or forced resignation, then the only remaining mechanisms of aborting his presidency were either through the courts or by winning the midterm elections to facilitate impeachment and a trial in the Senate in 2019.”
“Democrats had assumed that Republicans were on the defensive against boilerplate charges of sexism, racism, homophobia, and nativism. Republican functionaries in Congress and within the Washington bureaucracy and punditocracy had grown apologetic and complacent.”
“Republican politicos had more or less accepted the fact that, while successful at the local and state level, Republicans couldn’t win back the presidency — and that they should live with it and indeed find ways to thrive nobly as the “out” party.”
“In contrast, Trump’s raison d’être is to fight tooth and nail against a biased media, Democratic opponents, Never Trump Republicans, and the proverbial deep state. Had he just taken their blows, remained stoic, and not thrashed back, the national scene would now be mostly quiet.
“The day’s blaring headlines, of course, differ in details. But the common themes behind the headlines are that Trump should never have been president, that he is an inexplicably successful ogre, and that he won’t shut up – and therefore he must be forced to go away by any means necessary.”
The Latest On Socialism In Action: 5 Million Fleeing, No Toilet Paper, and 1,000,000% Hyperinflation, at economicpolicyjournal.com. No comment necessary.
Socialism Worked In Venezuela, by Richard M. Salsman, aier.org. Maybe socialism works exactly as it’s proponents have intended it to work. Excerpt from the article:
“Conservatives seem to blithely presume that socialists intend to deliver liberty, prosperity, and peace. But where’s the evidence for that claim, beyond mere self-serving socialist rhetoric and demagoguery? Why assume that socialists seek progress when their many “experiments” over the past century make clear, to anyone aware of the history, that socialist systems repeatedly, ineluctably, and inherently inflict human harm?”
Greeks Owe A Stunning 180 Billion Euros In Tax Arrears To The State, at zerohedge.com. Tax avoidance and a black market economy always immerge when Government intervention into the economy gets too oppressive.
Europeanize America? Not On Your Life, at zerohedge.com. We shouldn’t look to Europe for solutions to our economic and political problems. Excerpt from the article: “Europeans lived for centuries under kings and emperors. They came to believe that power flowed from the top down.”
America came to exist after centuries of being free from top down rules from Kings. The individual was free to succeed or fail on his own. We have a culture of individual freedom and it is different from the culture of Europe.
The Brexit Breakdown, by Thomas Luongo, at lewrockwell.com. The EU is an example of what the above article clearly explains.
In A Blow To Media Gun Narrative, Homicides Down In 2017, by Ryan McMaken, at mises.org. No comment needed.
“Peak Oil“, by Eric Peters, at ericpetersautos.com. Excerpt from the article: “Weren’t we supposed to be running out of oil?”
“They – the government and the mainstream press – have been saying just that since the early ’70s and their saying so served as the justification for velocity rationing (the infamous Drive 55 national maximum speed limit law, which abused motorists for 20 years before it was finally repealed in the mid-’90s) and for CAFE – the federal law which imposes fuel rationing on the car industry. It is compelled – by regulatory fiat – to find ways to reduce fuel consumption because the government says we’re about to run out of fuel.”
“Except that hasn’t happened. The opposite has happened.”
Individuals in government won’t give up the power they usurped during crisis situations (oil crisis). Even when the premises for their usurpation is dead wrong.
Wind Growth After PTC Expiration, by Lisa Linowes, at masterresource.org. Wind energy is costing tax payers billions of dollars. Even tax payer subsidies can’t make wind viable.
Ethane Rising: Another Fossil Fuel Advances, by Robert Bradley Jr, at masterresource.org Thank God for fracking! Excerpt from the article: “The impact of ethane is perhaps the most remarkable development in the remarkable story of the shale revolution. Less than three years ago, ethane was a largely unwanted byproduct of oil and gas drilling … but today, ethane is feedstock for nearly half of U.S. plastics production and a valuable export to chemical companies around the world.”
