Pithy Quotes from Thomas Sowell

Thomas Sowell crams so much insight into so few words better than any author I have ever read. I always loved his “Random Thought” articles when he was writing his weekly column. I found out he has a twitter page. He posts what I would call random thoughts on it. Here are some pithy quotes from his twitter page (click here)

This is one of my favorites.  “Envy was once considered to be one of the seven deadly sins before it became one of the most admired virtues under its new name, “social justice.”

“What do you call it when someone takes someone else’s money openly by force? Robbery. What do you call it when a politician takes someone else’s money in taxes and gives it to someone who is more likely to vote for him? Social Justice.”

“The political left has never understood that, if you give the government enough power to create “social justice,” you have given it enough power to create despotism. Millions of people around the world have paid with their lives for overlooking that simple fact.”

“One of the sad signs of our times is that we have demonized those who produce, subsidized those who refuse to produce, and canonized those who complain.”

“You can see the agenda behind the rhetoric when profits are called “unconscionable” but taxes never are, even when taxes take more than half of what someone has earned, or add much more to the prices we have to pay than profits do.”

“The left’s vision is not only a vision of the world, but also a vision of themselves, as superior beings pursuing superior ends. In the United States, however, this vision conflicts with a Constitution that begins, “We the People…”
