Walter E. Williams Talks About Free Market Morality

August 2, 2013

I saw this video titled Free Market Morality at prageruniversity.com. In it Walter Williams talks about the voluntary action between individuals in the market as opposed to the coercive action used in a centrally planned economy. He also talks about the market being a positive sum game instead of a zero sum game because both sides in an exchange are better off. He explains concepts as only he can. Watch listen and learn.

I saw these cartoons at Monty Pelerin’s World, at economicnoise.com. They make you laugh on the one hand, and soberly contemplate where we are on the other.

THE NEXT AMERICAN REVOLUTION

This article titled The Next American Revolution by Charles Hugh Smith at oftwominds.com, is a view into the future from his crow’s nest. CHS always makes you think. Here are a few excerpts from the article.

“The next American Revolution will not be an event, it will be a process. We naturally turn to the past for templates of the future, but history has a way of remaining remarkably unpredictable.” (more…)

PRESIDENT’S COMMENCEMENT SPEECH

President Obama gave the commencement address at Ohio State Universities graduation ceremony last weekend. Here are a few quotes from the speech followed by some of my comments.

Unfortunately, you’ve grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that’s at the root of all our problems. Some of these same voices also do their best to gum up the works. They’ll warn that tyranny always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave, and creative, and unique experiment in self-rule is somehow just a sham with which we can’t be trusted.”

CONSTITUTION VS. TYRANNY

This is what you would expect to hear from someone who doesn’t want his power to be challenged. Lets look at what our founders thought about  Government and compare it to our President. (more…)

Read this article titled, Greek Tax Hikes Backfire As Tax Revenues Plunge 16%, at Zerohedge.com, if you want to see what will happen in the U.S. if we continue to make economic decisions through the political process.

CENTRAL PLANNERS IGNORE THE FIRST RULE OF ECONOMICS

No matter how hard Government and politicians try to create a world of abundance, the reality that we live in a world of scarcity hits them square in the face. Their answer when their plans don’t work as advertised, is to ignore the reality of the first rule of economics, which is scarcity, and continue going ever faster down the same central planning road that created the problem in the first place.

CENTRAL PLANNERS WORK AGAINST ECONOMIC FORCES

As a Government starts its intervention, slowly at first, into the workings of the free market through regulation, and taxes, the economy will reach a point where it will not (more…)

Spontaneous Order Utilizes More Knowledge Than Central Planning Could Ever Hope To Utilize.

December 10, 2012

This video from http://www.learnliberty.org talks about spontaneous ordering processes.

This quote by Thomas Sowell, “The abstract existence of knowledge means nothing unless it is applied at the point of decision or action“, explains why the spontaneous order of the market, efficiently produces more output than central planners can produce in a statist economy. The market economy brings abstract knowledge and decision makers together more effectively than central planning could ever hope to do.

Abstract knowledge can’t be known by one individual or board of individuals, this fact alone dooms central planning to failure. Even if planners knew all of the abstract knowledge of every individual , they wouldn’t know the exact time or place to apply this knowledge in the decision-making process. Voluntary cooperation through the free market process is (more…)

Our Constitutional Republic was brought into existence for one reason and one reason only, to protect the individual from coercion and dominance by other individuals, by foreign countries, but mainly from the coercion and dominance by the very  Government the Constitution created. The constitution clearly defines the powers of Government, protects the rights of individuals, and sets up a process by which the people can give the Government more power or take power away. SPONTANEOUS ORDER DEMONSTRATED BY TRAFFIC WITH NO SIGNALS

September 14, 2012

This video is an interesting example of spontaneous order created by voluntary cooperation of individuals. I mentioned spontaneous order in the previous post, and this video demonstrates how people don’t need top down planning to create a complex order.

This is how the free market works. Individuals voluntarily producing, exchanging, and consuming, create this complex societal order in which we live. (more…)
