Let’s Take A “Serious” Look At Conspiracy Theories.

March 27, 2013

Let’s take a break and laugh at ourselves concerning conspiracy theories. Many of us fall into the trap of thinking their has to be complex explanations for everything. Many times there are simple explanations for complex situations. The simple fact that the earth is tilted on its axis explains why the seasons change. Seasonal change sets in motion complex processes from photosynthesis to bird migration.

Always remember correlation is not causation.

This Star Wars conspiracy theory video is really funny. But let’s also understand that many people try to discredit arguments that they can’t refute with logic and facts, by labeling the person who puts forth the argument  a “conspiracy theorist”. The red flag should always go up when the person is being attacked, instead of his argument being  answered.

Marriage, Why Is It Protected By The Law?

Marriage Day

Marriage Day (Photo credit: Fikra)

I wrote a post titled, “We’re All Born In The Middle Of The Story“, in which I quote Thomas Sowell who said, “results observed at a given point in time may be part of a process that stretches far back in time.” This quote is the first thing everyone should think about when they are trying to understand any particular issue that is being discussed. Most people think history started the day they were born. They give little thought, or have no understanding of how the world that existed the day they were born came to exist as it did. Being born in the middle of the story automatically makes us ignorant, sometimes blissfully ignorant, about the beginning of the story. When it comes to the issue of marriage vs. gay marriage, we are all born in the middle of the story.

The issue of gay marriage is not a question of understanding why gays don’t  have the “right to marry”, it is an issue of understanding why marriage, defined as a union between one man and one woman, was legally acknowledged in the first place. This issue doesn’t seem that complicated if you look at it logically and not emotionally, but that’s the problem in today’s society, emotions and feelings trump logic and reason in our therapeutic world.

Purchasing A Gun vs. Purchasing An Abortion.

Let’s take a look at the differences and similarities between purchasing a gun and purchasing an abortion.

Both guns and abortions are goods or services which are produced and purchased on the free market.

When a gun is purchased, there’s a 99%  chance that gun will never result in the death of a single individual. When an abortion is purchased, there is a 99% chance the abortion will result in the death of an individual.

My tax dollars aren’t used to purchase a gun for someone who can’t afford it. My tax dollars are used to purchase an abortion for a woman or a girl who can’t afford it.

You can legally use a gun to kill an attacker in self-defense, if your life is threatened. You can legally use an abortion to kill a baby for any reason, including the mother’s life being threatened by the baby. (more…)

Miss Carly Rose Sonenclar Performes “Money Tree” At Birdland Jazz Club.

March 1, 2013

Let’s take a break from what we normally talk about, because it’s starting to affect my mood. When I need an eraser for my mental blackboard, I listen to songs performed by this young girl whom god has blessed with unique vocal talent. I posted Carly’s  X Factor Audition Of Nina Simone’s  “Feeling Good”  after I saw it on EconomicPolicyJournal.com,  because I couldn’t believe anybody, let alone someone 13 years old, could be that good. I watched Carly’s performances on X Factor, her vocals were incredibly unique, and many times her versions of the songs were better than the original artists. She was humble, always thankful, well spoken, and didn’t have an ego, all of which are rare qualities in today’s society. Listening to her sing always puts a smile on my face. Here is a video of Carly singing “Money Tree” at Birdland Jazz Club when she was 12 years old. Enjoy!

Capital Consumption, aka, Eating Our Seed Corn.

Corn Seeds

This article on ZeroHedge.com, R.I.P. Retirement: 28% Of Americans Are Raiding Their 401k Plans, talks about how people are withdrawing a portion of their retirement savings and spending it on present consumption. A large part of these savings will be used  to produce capital goods (tools, buildings, vehicles, machines, etc.), which will be used to produce future goods more efficiently. When we start to use money saved for capital formation and use it for present consumption, we are eating our seed corn. If we start to eat a portion of the corn we’ve set aside for use as seed, we won’t produce as much corn for next years consumption. This has been happening for the last four years. Individuals have been using savings earmarked for the future, in order survive in the present.

Federal Reserve Policy Makers Have An Incestuous Intellectual Relationship With Each Other.

The Federal Reserve: The Biggest Scam In History

This article, “A Bold Dissenter At The Fed, Hoping His Doubts Are Wrong”, by Binyamin Applebaum in The NY Times, is an example of , what Thomas Sowell calls, “credentialed ignorance”. He is being rather nice because I would call it an example of intellectual inbreeding. These Federal Reserve policy makers have earned their economic credentials from some of the “best” Universities, and we should stand in awe of them. Unfortunately I don’t give my respect to people with “status” that easily. I think respect is something that is earned, and just because they have a particular position or status in the political or intellectual world, doesn’t mean they should get my respect. What I have observed is that these people live in a continual feed back loop. They all think (more…)

Canadian PM Poilievre Talks Economic Sense About The U.S. And The E.U.

December 28, 2012

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWkUaJId7pM

This is the kind of common sense that Americans used to be noted for. It sounds like Mr. Poilievre is battling the same socialist thinking that liberty minded people in the U.S., have been trying to hold the line against for decades. I wish more of our politicians had the kind of brass that this man has.

0-3:40 is about the U.S. problem.   4:39-6:00 is about Europe’s problems.   6:00-7:20 is a must.

Here are a few quotes from the speech.  (more…)

“You Never Let A Serious Crisis Go To Waste.”

The full quote, “You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opprotunity to do things you think you could not do before.” is by Rahm Emanuel, former White House Chief of Staff under President Obama. This reflects the thinking of Saul Alinsky, who wrote “Rules for Radicals.” “Rules for Radicals” is the default position the President, and Emanuel operate under. If you understand this, it will be easier to analyse everything they say and do.

Here is the template. 1) Use a tragedy as a crisis, or create a crisis where none exists. 2) Paint the crisis with as much emotion as possible, and throw logical analysis out the window. 3) Propose the one and only solution to the problem, which just happens to coincide with what you’ve wanted to implement for many years. 4) Paint anyone who opposes your one and only solution as evil, uncaring, not smart enough to understand the nuanced brilliance of your solution, or in the pockets of …. you pick the evil entity. 5) Force the solution on the people by any means, whether legislatively, by executive order, or through the legal system. 6) When the unintended consequences of your solution rear their ugly head, use them as a reason for more brilliant solutions to the made up crises . We’re All Born In The Middle Of The Story.

The Passage of Time

The Passage of Time (Photo credit: ToniVC)

Each of us was born at a specific time on a specific day of a specific month in a specific year of a specific decade in a specific era of history. Having lived for fifty plus years, I look back at the numerous days, or five decades, or the few eras of history in which I have lived, and realize that you can’t break up time into these convenient measurements and look at them separately. They do not stand on their own. As Thomas Sowell said, “results observed at a given point in time may be part of a process that stretches far back in time.”

Most people think history started the day they were born. They give little thought, or have no understanding of how the world that existed the day they were born came to exist as it did. Where each person is, and what they are doing today, is the result of decisions made by them and other people, in the recent past and the distant past. An example of this is, (more…)

Thomas Sowell’s Vision of the Anointed.

November 26, 2012

The first book I read by Thomas Sowell was, “The Vision Of The Anointed”. Nobody explains complexity more understandably than Thomas Sowell. This book helps pour a mental foundation on which to build your future thinking and understand about how to analyse everything. If I had not  stumbled upon Thomas Sowell being interviewed about this book on the radio one day, I would probably be blissfully ignorant of (more…)
