Observations From The Margin

August 17, 2017

Observation Tower

-What percent of the population is Neo Nazis, white supremacists, the KKK, anti fascists and communists? Not even 1%. These groups have no real power. They are repulsive to the other 99% or the population. The only way they can gain a platform is through the R and D political lens. A lens, through which, we have allowed both parties, and the media, to force us to see everything. Everything is spun politically. The parties and the media show the crazy fringe elements and try to attach these groups to the opposition party. When the parties place these fringe groups on the side of the other party they are playing a dangerous game because they are allowing these fringe groups to gain a measure of political relevance, negative relevance, but relevance non the less.

-If a tree falls in a forest and no one is their to hear it, does it make a sound? If no one would have shown up to protest against the protesters; or if the media wouldn’t have covered the protest, it would have been like no protest ever took place. No one would have known about it and no political relevance would have been gained by these groups.

-If you are an innocent protester, and the Neo Nazis you are marching against have helmets, sticks and shields, what would that tell you? Maybe you should get the heck out of there!

-If the Neo Nazis on the one side and the Antifa on the other side both have helmets, sticks and shields, what would that tell you? Maybe both sides were both looking for a fight. This is not how differences are addressed in America. This kind of stuff happens in third world countries.

-Neo Nazis, white supremacists, the KKK, anti fascists, communists, and socialists are all branches on the same ideological tree. They all want to use government force to implement their ideas. These groups are not for individual liberty and/or limited constitutional government.

-Why were the police not there to keep these two groups away from each other? All you had to do was look at each group to figure out they were going to fight.

-Do you think the media loved this or not? It fit their narrative that the D’s are good and R’s are racist. If you don’t think the media is biased I have a question. What was the narrative when Steve Scalise was shot by a Bernie Sanders supporter who specifically targeted Republicans practicing for a baseball game? Did the media paint the D’s as being the same as the shooter? Did the media call for Bernie Sanders to renounce the shooter? What would the narrative have been if a Trump supporter had targeted the Democrats practicing for a baseball game?

-No matter what Trump would have said, the D’s and the media would have called him a racist. If former President Obama had written Trumps comments, the D’s and the media would have still called him a racist. It is all politics.

-The reason everything is political is because politics is how petty tyrants get access to the government power needed to implement their vision. Identity politics is one of the main tools used in the political game. This only allows for government solutions to any perceived or real problem. The only way to get rid of battling factions is to make politics less important. And the only way to make politics less important is to shrink the size, scope and power of government. We have a lot of work to do because this will take time.

Old Lies, by Thomas Sowell, at Excerpt from the article: “Too many people in the media and in academia abandon their roles as conduits for facts and take on the role of filterers of facts to promote social and political agendas.

Is Free Trade Causing Job Loss?, by Walter E. Williams, at Excerpt from the article: “While job loss can be traumatic for the individual who loses his jib, for the nation job loss often indicates economic progress. In 1790, farmers were 90 percent of the U.S. labor force. By 1900, about 41 percent of our labor force was employed in agriculture. Today, less than 3 percent of Americans are employed in agriculture. What would Trump or Hillary have done in the face of this precipitous loss of agricultural jobs? They might have outlawed all of the technological advances in science and machinery that have made our farmers the world’s most productive and capable of producing the world’s cheapest food.”

Aetna Joins Other Major Insurers In Pulling Back From Obamacare, by Alison Kodjak, at Obamacare is working exactly as it was planned. It was supposed to be the next step toward a Government single payer system. This is where it is headed.

A Primer On Seattle’s New First Come First Served Renters Laws, at My friend has many rental houses. I told him about this law in Seattle. He said he never rents to the first people who apply. They are usually  jumping from rental house to rental house because they are bad tenants. This law is a violation of an individual’s property rights. Remember the baker who wouldn’t make a wedding cake for a gay wedding. He was forced to either sell his property (the wedding cake) or get fined. He lost his business. Oh I forgot, that can’t happen in Amerika!

Thank God Nobody Died From This Texas Women’s Illegal Tamales, by Scott Shackford, at Once again our public servants have to get involved in voluntary exchanges. If this lady produces food that people don’t want, or if someone gets sick from her food, she will go out of business. It’s that simple.

Shoplifting Runs Rampant In California After Rule Change, at Unintended consequences can be predicted if some basic economic principles are understood. When the costs of getting caught stealing are lowered, more stealing will take place.

Six Weeks Later, L.A. Sheriff’s Department Admits They Killed An Innocent Man In A SWAT Raid, by Eric Gohem, at I think this kind of policing is out of control. An armored vehicle, and flash bang grenades are a bit much. If you add the fact that they didn’t admit they where wrong for six weeks. Well. These kinds of stories are why people don’t trust police. If both sides continue to escalate, this won’t end well.

“Homesick” Clock Boy Family Returns To U.S. Promptly Files $10m Federal Lawsuit, at Does the family of the boy who was suspended from school for biting his pop tart in a way that made it look like a gun have cause to sue? Only if he is a member of one of the lefts protected groups.

Feds Holding Summits For Lesbian Farmers, by Elizabeth Harrington, at Excerpt from the article: “The agency says it wants to change the perception of what it means to be a farmer in America away from white rich male.” I know a lot of farmers. They are not “rich”! Farming is a way of life. For some reason I don’t think lesbians will be falling over each other to become farmers. If individual lesbians decide to become farmers, great, have at it. If your good, you will make it on what you produce and no other reason, which is as it should be. Why is this the government’s business in the first place? Because Government has to expand it’s influence into everything.

Here is the Department of Agriculture’s Document (click here) on this subject. Please look at this document. Where do you get people who make up sh!t like this. Think of all the bureaucrats, in all the government agencies, who use their time to produce rules like this. It is mind boggling.

Hillary Scrubs Sexual Assault Pledge After Allegations Against Bill Resurface, at Hillary has painted herself into a lot of corners over her career. Unfortunately the mainstream media always lets her out of these corners.

Political Correctness, A Civil Society, And The Rule Of Law

November 10, 2015

In my previous post we talked about how political correctness produces petulant people. Here is an example of what we talked about. In this video a person from the media is taking pictures of the protests at the University of Missouri. The students, and what appear to be adults, don’t like him being there. The interaction between the reporter and the people in the crowd is instructive in understanding the mentality of the crowd. I see two different kinds of people in the crowd. Some are acting like children, and others are acting like union guys on a picket line trying to intimidate a scab laborer.

It’s impossible to reason with ignorant children because there is no starting point on which to agree. And the only way to deal with bullies is to stand up to their intimidation. Unfortunately you can’t educate ignorance if the ignorant don’t want to be educated, and standing up to bullies can ultimately lead to a physical confrontation.

The reporter in the video shows us how difficult it is to educate ignorance and stand up to bullies. I tip my hat to his courage. Here is what he says to an ignorant lady who won’t listen, “Ma’am , ok ma’am, the first amendment, ma’am, ma’am, Don’t yell at me ma’am. The first amendment protects your right to be here, and mine.” Of course she didn’t hear him or wouldn’t listen to what he said.

Then the union like bullies try to intimidate him, and when he doesn’t back down they push a little harder.

Make sure you watch the last 20 seconds of the video to see how an “adult” acts when a different reporter tells her he doesn’t have to move. She says, “You need to get out, you need to get out, you need to get out, you need to get out.” Doesn’t that sound like a child repeating I want my mommy, I want my mommy, I want my mommy. Then she yells to the crowd, “Hey, who wants to help me get this reporter out of here. I need some muscle over here.” She showed she was childish and a bully.

A civilized society can only function when there are behavioral standards that are accepted by a majority of its members. These standards are not top down rules from government, like the PC crowd wants to impose on people. These behavioral standards (how we treat each others), are passed down from previous generations. These societal norms evolved spontaneously over time because acting a certain way produced more cooperation and less conflict.

The break down of the rule of law is causing what we are seeing happen from Baltimore to the University of Missouri. If the rule of law is defined as “general rules, known in advance, and applying to the rulers as well as the ruled”. Than the breakdown of the rule of law is caused by government making laws that are micro managing, so numerous we can’t possibly know them in advance, and not applying to the rulers, only to the ruled.

As more rules are passed, Government power grows. As this power increases, individuals outside of government, begin to see opportunities to lobby bureaucrats and politicians to achieve their goals.

It’s not just the PC crowd who want to use government to push an agenda. People from crony capitalists, to environmental crazies, are trying to use the power of government law making to force others to comply with their ideas.

What we are seeing is the correction for giving the government too much power. The best possible solutions for most of our problems, or perceived problems, are not found in one size fits all decisions by third party Government bureaucrats and politicians. The best possible solutions to problems are revealed when individuals voluntarily cooperate. We have traveled so far down this road that I fear the correction will have a high cost in strife between people. I hope I’m wrong.

Abuses Of Power By Individuals In Government

April 23, 2015

This quote is from George Washington, who was uniquely qualified to state the truth about what Government truly is at its core. He fought for the British in the French and Indian War. He signed the Declaration of Independence which spelled out abuses of power that the founders were declaring their independence from. He was the commander of the Colonial army during the Revolutionary War. He was at the Constitutional Convention that set up our Constitutional Republic which the founders thought would give individuals, freedom from government force. He was the first President of the United States, a position he could have held for life. But he walked away from power after two terms, setting a precedent followed by all Presidents, until FDR thought he was more important than “the indispensable man”.

The wisdom of our founders in general, and George Washington in particular, when it came to understanding what government was and what it could and would become unless individuals remained “eternally vigilant”, can’t be questioned. There life experiences gave them a deeper understanding about this subject than any individual could glean from reading and studying their writings. As great as their writing skills were, they probably couldn’t completely communicate in writing their total understanding on the subject of government force.

This is another quote from George Washington which reveals a keen insight into the nature of man. This insight goes hand in hand with his knowledge of what Government truly is. Few if any man can be trusted with the reigns of power. And many times the highest bidder is not an outsider, but the person himself.

Our founders not only understood that virtuous men would be tempted by the highest bidder, they knew that the worst could and would get to the top. This is why they wanted a limit on the power of government so that there would be a limit on the damage government “criminals” could do to individuals while in a position of power.

We are responsible for our present state of big abusive Government. We haven’t been eternally vigilant in keeping the chains of the constitution firmly tied around its neck. Trying to get the chain back around the neck of government is going to take a lot of time and effort. Are we willing to do this now, or are most of us still to comfortable and ignorant to act. The longer we put this off the more costly it will be.

YOU MUST READ this article titled, Wisconsin’s Shame: “I Thought It Was A Home Invasion”, at It is about the abuse of power by Milwaukee County district attorney John Chisholm. He used what are called John Doe investigations, in a clear abuse of power, to harass people who were supporters of Governor Scott Walker. Chisholm was on the side of the unions and government employees. His wife was a teachers union shop steward and wasn’t happy about the union reforms passed under Walker. Chisholm felt it “was his duty to stop them”. He illegally used the power of Government to fight political fights. Here is an excerpt from the article.

“For dozens of conservatives, the years since Scott Walker’s first election as governor of Wisconsin transformed the state – known for pro-football championships, good cheese, and a population with a reputation for being unfailingly polite – into a place where conservatives have faced early morning raids, multi-year secretive criminal investigations, slanderous and selective leaks to sympathetic media, and intrusive electronic snooping. Yes, Wisconsin, the cradle of the progressive movement and home of the “Wisconsin idea” – the marriage of state governments and state universities to govern through technocratic reform – was giving birth to a new progressive idea, the use of law enforcement as a political instrument, as a weapon to attempt to undo election results, shame opponents and ruin lives.

This is what the IRS targeting to tea party and liberty minded groups was all about. Using the force of Government to intimidate political opposition into ceding ground. Going through the legal process when falsely charged, or going through the process of complying with government regulations, is too high of a price for most people. The entrenched government status quo will use all their power, legally or illegally, to win. And we reach a point where the process itself becomes a punishment for getting involved.

Power is being abused at every level of government. We have shown many videos on this sight showing this abuse. Watch the video from this article, Caught On Tape: Cop Grabs, Smashes, Phone Of Women Recording Him, at You are allowed to film the police when they are on the job with this stipulation, you can’t interfere with their work. Some cops try to intimidate people from recording their activity by stating , “you are interfering with our work”, but they can’t take away your phone or delete your recording. I know it doesn’t say anything about smashing the phone, but isn’t that a violent attempt to delete the recording, or is it the destruction of property, or both.

This short video from Learn Liberty, gives us a humorous insight into how a persons thought process changes when he gets a chance to wield power.

In one of my recent articles titles, As The Number Of Laws Increase, Individual Freedom Decreases, we talk about how the increase in the amount of laws gives Government officials the ability to prosecute literally anyone for violating some obscure law. The process of defending yourself is your punishment, but the government official usually pays no cost for abusing his power. We have to roll back big abusive government because, as I’ve written previously, Individual Liberty Is The Least Contentious Way Of Settling Differences.
