Dallas Fed Quietly Suspends Energy Mark-To-Market On Default Contagion Fears, at zerohedge.com. Put simply, The Fed told banks not to force bankruptcies, and demand asset sales instead. Some of the Feds electronically printed counterfeit money, in search of higher yields, found it’s way into the fracking industry. So part of the fracking boom is a bubble activity. Now marginal producers, that would not have come into existence under normal market conditions, must be liquidated to correct the Feds intervention. But the Fed doesn’t want to allow the correction to the problem it caused.

Why The Fed Has To Raise Rates, by Charles Hugh Smith, at oftwominds.com. The US dollar is the worlds reserve currency. This puts the Fed in a situation of trying to control the domestic economy and the international economy. It can’t help both at the same time. An action that helps one, hurts the other. The Fed is trying to use it’s policies to steer the economy. It doesn’t understand that economic laws are trying to correct the Feds steering.

Student Wants Free College, Debt Forgiveness, and $15 Minimum Wage, at foxbusiness.

I remember when I was in High School I thought that socialism (taking from people who I thought had a lot of money and “giving” it to those who don’t have much) was a good idea. Once I started working I realized how ignorant I was. I feel sorry for the student in this video because she doesn’t even realize how ignorant she sounds. Unfortunately the democrat presidential candidates are saying the same thing. They are just better at hiding the message with verbal slight of hand.

Academic Welfare Queens, by Tho Bishop, at mises.org. Easy money creates bubbles. Bubbles create malinvestment. “Educational malinvestment creates college degrees that are worthless to the students, on the one hand, but profitable to professors and the colleges on the other.

The Fly In The Buyback Ointment: Corporate Leverage Is At Record Levels, at zerohedge.com. Corporations are propping up their stock prices by borrowing money at zero percent interest and buying back their stocks. A shorter supply raises the price of the remaining shares. At some point a companies revenue won’t be able to service their debt. The problem accelerates if there’s a stock holder sell off. The high price shares bought back with debt would now have a lower price. If they have to sell shares to raise revenue, they would be selling at a huge loss.

Obamacare: It Doesn’t Work Because It Couldn’t Work, by Kevin D. Williamson, at nationalreview.com. Great analysis of why Obamacare doesn’t work. At it’s core Obamacare isn’t insurance even it tries to be. Insurance is about calculating the risk of what will happen. Obamacare is a pay as you go system for what has happened.

Star Trek’s Pseudo-Economics, By Robert P. Murphy, at fee.org. Excerpt from the article: “It is true that Roddenberry thought, and others still think, that high productivity will eliminate the necessity of money for economic coordination. But Roddenberry was simply mistaken on this point — as were the socialist theorists who thought the modern computer would make socialism “work.” Ironically, the socialist theorists (and Gene Roddenberry) got things backwards. In a primitive Robinson Crusoe or Swiss Family Robinson environment, people can make decisions without recourse to money prices, because the system isn’t very complicated; a person can “see” the trade-offs involved. Yet, in a modern economy based on the division of labor, money prices are indispensable. The possible uses of resources become greater — and the economic problem more difficult to solve — as technology expands.

Bernie Sanders’ War On Chinese Bobbleheads, at reason.com. Protectionist trade policies like the ones socialists like Bernie Sanders pushes, sound similar to many of the things Donald Trump says about trade with China. These policies sound plausible at first glance, which is why many people fall for these ideas. If people would look below the surface at the economic reality of these policies they wouldn’t be fooled by slick or ignorant politicians. This short video should help.

This is just my subjective value judgement; I think economics is much more riveting when explained by an attractive woman with an Australian accent.

On Third World Sweatshops, at economicpolicyjournal.com. Many sanctimonious do gooders want wages payed to these workers increased, even though they freely chose to work in these “sweatshops”. These do gooders want to export minimum wage (floors) laws to these third world countries. Do they understand that Minimum Wage Laws Create Unemployment? How can we expect them to understand what the results will be in other countries when  they are ignorantly pushing the same policies in our country. Why The Federal Government Fails, by Chris Edwards, at cato.org. This short article gives five reasons why Government fails. But like a lot of things, judging success and failure depends on the perspective of the person doing the judging. President Obama thought Obamacare was a success for the simple fact that it got passed. I think Obamacare was a failure because the cost of my insurance has risen 40%. Of course I am just an evil person looking after my own self-interest, and the President is just a humble public servant who would never consider his self-interest when making decrees from on high.

Obama: Earning Contempt, at Home and Abroad, by Victor Davis Hanson, at victorhanson.com. If I misread human nature and cultural differences not many people are affected and the clean up has a low-cost. But a misread at the national level affects millions and the clean up has a high cost if it can be cleaned up at all. Could the recipients of Obama’s outreach and deference see this as weakness and worthy of contempt?  “…is naive appeasement more dangerous than wise deterrence, or …. does keeping quiet and carrying a large stick trump sounding off while wielding a toothpick.” Does appeasing a bully or a child, who is a brat, work? It depends on how you define work.

Sorry Mr. Trump, Canadian Healthcare Is Not Working, at fraserinstitute.org. Venezuela Is Adding More Zeroes To Its Currency To Deal With Hyperinflation, at bloomberg.com. Increasing the money supply is the definition of inflation. Today we think that rising prices is inflation. Rising prices can be caused by many things one of which is increasing {inflating} the money supply {inflation}. The cure for inflation {increasing the money supply} is not increasing the money supply.

The Newest Obamacare Fail: Penalties of $36,500 Per Worker, at economicpolicyjournal.com. This new IRS penalty is a result of different interpretations of the Affordable Care Act. Or is it a money grab by the IRS. We should not be surprised that a 2500 page bill that allows bureaucrats to make more laws as they desire could be interpreted differently by the IRS. Since the IRS had to be expanded to enforce the Obamacare fine/tax, logic would follow that they have to find more money law breakers to justify their existence. Because there wasn’t enough money mined from the tax payers as only 6.6 Million Americans Were Forced To Pay The Individual Mandate Tax In 2014 for a total of only $1.2 billion. That’s chump change when you’re talking 3 plus trillion in government spending.

“Fannie And Freddie Are Back Bigger And Badder Than Ever“: NY Times Warns, at zerohedge.com. The only difference this time is “the government has decided to “sweep” almost all the duo’s profits into its own coffers, to be used as a slush fund for general government expenses“. Over Half Of The People Who Received Subsidies To Purchase Obamacare, Payed It Back To The IRS, by John Lott, at johnrlott.blogspot.com. GOVERNMENTS WAR ON CASH

Government either wants you to spend your cash to help their Keynesian stimulus fantasy. Or you must keep it on deposit at a bank so the supply of money can be expanded, via our fractional reserve banking system, to help their Keynesian fantasy. Spending counterfeit money is a consumption activity that is not backed by any production. It makes us poorer. Production creates wealth, consumption destroys wealth.

The Bankster War On Cash: JP Morgan Chase To Prohibit The Storage Of Cash In Safety Deposit Boxes, at economicpolicyjournal.com. In selected markets around the country, Chase restricts the use of cash for payments on credit cards, mortgages, auto loans, and equity lines.
